A recent Albemarle County single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck should remind Fauquier and Culpeper motorists how deadly rollover crashes can be.
Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011, a Ford pickup truck was driving on Route 53 when it flipped on its side while rounding a curve.
Three people were in the truck at the time of the accident.
A Crash Reconstruction Team arrived on the scene to determine the cause of the accident. Both lanes of Route 53 were kept closed until the investigation was completed.
According to the Albemarle County Police, one of the passengers, a woman, ended up pinned under the truck. Rescue crews managed to pry the passenger from under the truck with hydraulic tools. The woman was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center in serious condition. The other passenger was not injured, NBC29.com reports.
The driver, 21-year-old Gatlin Brown, of Scottsville, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), which is considered a misdemeanor. Brown also received a felony charge for causing serious bodily injury while intoxicated.
Alcohol consumption reduces reaction speed and focus. It also breaks down inhibition, resulting in unrealistic overconfidence. This is why a drunk driver often drives way too fast and crashes at the first curve encountered.
The attorneys of Dulaney, Lauer & Thomas sincerely hope that the female passenger will recover from her terrible injuries.
