Crash in Fauquier Kills Woman and Grandson

Posted on Sep 22, 2011

Last Saturday, Eric Henry Matthews, age 45, of New Market, was driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon traveling eastwards on Vint Hill Road in Fauquier County when a westbound 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck suddenly crossed the median and hit the Avalon head-on.

The Virginia car crash occurred at 8:20 a.m., about 100 yards from Kennedy Road. Eric Matthews' wife Lori Matthews, who was in the passenger seat, and their 8-year-old grandson Reign Lewis Spencer, who was seated in the rear, were killed in the accident.

Both the driver of the Tacoma, Sharon Sue Rose, age 54, and the driver of the Avalon were airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Virginia State Police declared that all of the vehicle occupants had been wearing seatbelts. It is not known at this time what caused the Tacoma to cross the center line. No charges have been filed as police continue their investigation.

The Virginia accident attorneys of Dulaney, Lauer & Thomas convey their most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Lori Matthews and Reign Lewis Spencer.
