A Unionville resident and employee at Battlefield Ford in Culpeper is dead after a car wreck that happened when he was on his way to work in the parts department at the dealer.
Kenneth Wade Simpkins, 32, was driving a 2008 Pontiac GT when he was hit. According to Virginia State Police, the traffic accident happened when Simpkins was hit by a 17 year old driver in a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
The teen driver ran off the right shoulder, and when he tried to return to the road he overcorrected, crashing into Simpkins’ Pontiac. The teen struck the driver’s side door of the Pontiac. Simpkins was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck, as was the teenager.
The teen driver was not injured in the wreck, however Simpkins died at the scene of the accident. The teen has not yet been charged in the incident, however charges are pending as the investigation continues. Police have stated that alcohol was not a factor in the deadly crash.
Tragically, Simpkins died on the street where he lived with his mother and father. He was on his way to pick up a Battlefield Ford employee nearby who was unable to drive when he was killed.
