Culpeper Hit-and-Run Injures 5-Year-Old Boy

Posted on Jun 02, 2011

According to a recent report from NBC29.com, a 5-year-old boy was walking to a car in the parking lot of the Dominion Square Shopping Center, near the Rite Aid Pharmacy, when he was involved in a hit-and-run accident. An SUV, apparently an early 2000 model Yukon or Suburban with New Jersey tags, turned into the parking lot at a high speed and struck the boy. The driver of the vehicle got out of the car, apologized for hitting the boy, and then left. The SUV was going so fast that it left skid marks on the pavement and almost hit two cars.

The driver has been described as a short, black male around 24 or 25 years old who was wearing a white shirt, khaki pants, and a red baseball hat. Also in the SUV were another black male and a black female.

The boy was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital for emergency care and was then transferred by ambulance to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville for additional treatment.

The Culpeper Police Accident Reconstruction Team was dispatched to the scene to gather evidence. Captain Ricky Pinksaw said, "We have a suspect in the case. But we need more information, and we hope the public help identify the suspect and locate the vehicle."
