Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

Culpeper police preparing for Super Bowl drunk driving spike

Posted on Jan 31, 2011

Are you getting ready for your big Super Bowl party bash in the Warrenton or Culpeper area?  You aren’t alone.  As friends and families plan their Super Bowl viewing parties, law enforcement officers in Culpeper are also preparing – in a different way.

Unfortunately, drunk driving incidents in Virginia tend to spike around Super Bowl time, when rowdy fans take things too far by getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.  How can you avoid a tragedy during this year’s Super Bowl?

  • Select a responsible designated driver
  • Treat designated drivers at your party well, so they feel that refraining from drinking was worth it
  • If you are going to a party, leave your keys at home so you have to return home with your designated driver
  • Drink responsibly, not to excess, which can impair your judgment
  • Provide plenty of tasty non-alcoholic drinks for your guests to enjoy
  • Keep the number of a local taxi company handy
  • Don’t let your friends drive drunk – do what you have to do to keep them from getting behind the wheel
  • If you’re out at a bar or restaurant enjoying the game, pace yourself and make sure you have a designated driver

The Culpeper Police Department will be out in force from Monday January 31, 2011 through Sunday February 6, 2011.  Extra officers will be out on patrol, watching drivers to see if they appear to be intoxicated.
