Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

Culpeper school bus wreck on Main St caused by faulty brakes, rain?

Posted on Oct 26, 2010

A three-vehicle collision involving a school bus containing school children resulted in the temporary closure of South Main Street in Culpeper.  The accident happened when one car rear-ended another, pushing it under the back of the school bus, which was stopped at the time.  Fortunately, there were no injuries, just property damage.

Ashley O. Holmes, 18, was driving a 1993 Pontiac Sunfire when she crashed into the back of a 2004 Honda Civic.  This caused the Civic to be pushed under the back of the bus, a 1996 International.

The Civic ended up stuck under the bus, and a rollback wrecker was summoned by Culpeper police to remove the car.  The students on the bus were from Floyd T. Binns Middle School and eastern View High School.  They felt the impact, but were not hurt.

For her role in causing the wreck Holmes was charged with reckless driving for having faulty brakes on the Pontiac.  Her insurance will likely have to pick up the tab for the estimated $5,000 in damage to the Honda Civic.

After the wreck the bus was allowed to continue on its route, dropping off students at their homes.  The accident is under investigation; there was rain when the crash happened, but it is not known if this was a contributing factor in the accident.
