Paul J. Krause, 54, of Fairfax Station, died when his car was forced into oncoming traffic by a drunk driver, Carlos Sanchez-Ramos, 33, of Springfield. After the crash, Sanchez-Ramos left his car with a 3-year-old boy and fled. Police later arrested him on Route 1.
The occupants of a car hit head on by Krause, a husband and wife aged 77 and 73, respectively, suffered serious injuries and have been taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
According to a Washington Post report, Sanchez-Ramos's blood-alcohol content was about twice the legal definition of intoxication.
Sanchez-Ramos had previously been arrested for entering the country illegally and for drunken driving. The 3-year-old boy was not injured. It is unclear if the boy is his son. A 31-year-old passenger also in Sanchez-Ramos's car was not hurt and did not flee the scene.
The car accident attorneys of Dulaney, Lauer & Thomas send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Krause.
