Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

Head-on collision in Hermitage, VA could have been far worse.

Posted on Mar 23, 2011

Brad A. Sayre, 32, of Waynesboro, was driving his Nissan pickup truck on Eakle Road on March 15, 2011, when a 1995 Acura surged from the hilltop in front of him at high speed. Unable to avoid a crash, the two vehicles collided head-on, sending each one to the soft shoulders on each side of the road. Sayre stepped out of his truck and collapsed. He and the Acura driver, Dustin Harris, 20, of Crimora, were taken by ambulance to Augusta Health in Fishersville to treat what fortunately appeared to be minor injuries, according to a report by The News Virginian.

Witnesses declared that Harris had passed another vehicle, thus coming over the hill at high speed. Both vehicles were totaled. Charges for reckless driving against Harris are pending.
Eakle Road habitants Lori and James Bryant were sitting down for dinner when they heard the collision. "It sounded like a bomb went off," Lori Bryant said.
Head-on collisions are indeed violent, and both drivers were incredibly lucky to get away with only minor injuries. In head-on collisions, the combined speeds of two vehicles heading towards each other create an incredible force against which, in most cases, no seatbelt, air bag, or metal structure can protect the driver and passengers.
