Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

Pickup Truck Rollover Kills 1 and Injures 5 on Virginia I-95

Posted on Aug 03, 2011

Saturday morning's crash on Interstate 95 reminds all Culpeper and Fauquier motorists how a split-second loss of control can end in a deadly rollover accident.

A Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling south when the driver steered off the right side of the road. In an overreaction, the vehicle ran to the left side, striking several trees before tipping over and coming to a rest on its roof.

According to a ProgressIndex.com report, the driver, 60-year-old Claude Hogue of Quebec, Canada, died at the scene. A 12-year-old boy was sent to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Four other passengers, two 17-year-old girls, 50-year-old woman, and a 51-year-old man were taken to Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash occurred at 7:11 AM and closed all lanes for 30 minutes to allow Medflight landings. One lane was reopened by 8:15 AM, and all lanes were open by 9:45 AM.

The truck occupants were traveling from Quebec to Myrtle Beach, SC. It is believed that fatigue may have been a factor.

On the same day, in Dinwiddie, a three-vehicle crash was caused by a Peterbilt tractor-trailer rear-ending a Chevrolet Tahoe. The truck pushed the Tahoe into the rear of an Acura. The driver and three passengers of the Tahoe suffered minor injuries, while the drivers of the semi-truck and the Acura were unhurt.

The accident occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near mile marker 58 and caused both northbound lanes to close for more than an hour.
