SUV wreck near Lignum claims life of 78 year old Culpeper man

Posted on Dec 27, 2010

A Culpeper man is dead after running of the side of the road in an SUV on Route 3 near Lingnum.  According to the Virginia State Police, the man, 78 year old Edwin Ingle Reeves Jr., was driving in southeastern Culpeper when the accident happened.

Reeves was headed west in his 1993 Chevy SUV when he ran off the side of the road.  He hit a guardrail, which caused his SUV to flip over about a tenth of a mile east of Lignum Road on Route 3.

Reeves was taken to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg to be treated for his injuries.  Unfortunately Reeves died at the hospital.  There was one passenger in the vehicle with him at the time of the wreck, Reeves’ son David Edwin Reeves, 48, also of Culpeper.

David Reeves was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital to be treated.  No word on his condition.  Virginia State Police did state that both Reeves men were wearing their seatbelts when the accident happened.

There is no explanation for the crash at this time.  It could have been due to distracted driving, drowsy driving, a driving error, or the driver could have been trying to avoid an obstacle in the road.  Unfortunately, rollover accidents can be serious, especially in older vehicles.
