A truck driver for Hatfield Quality Meats was killed during the afternoon on March 7, 2011, when his 18-wheeler overturned down an embankment in Virginia. Driving northbound from Interstate 77 in Whyte County, Nicholas A. Marlin tried to merge onto Interstate 81 about 10 miles north of Whyteville, when the semi-trailer broke through the guardrail.
Marlin was trapped in the cab and died on the scene. According to a report by The Morning Call, Virginia State Police officials believe the truck took the exit curve too fast, which could have made the cargo shift. According to witnesses, the passenger side of the tractor lifted off the ground before overturning.
The accident attorneys of Dulaney, Lauer & Thomas send heartfelt thoughts to the family and friends of Mr. Marlin.
Large trucks are difficult to handle, and many truck drivers have trouble securing their cargo before they hit the road. Stowing the load in the trailer takes time and adequate equipment, and many drivers are under pressure to deliver their goods to the next client.
