Rodney Bechtle, 58, of Madison, was traveling southbound on U.S. 29 at Reva Road when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle hit a Toyota four-door sedan. The driver of the Toyota, a 15-year-old female with a learner's permit, had pulled out from a stop sign at Reva Road and was hit by the motorcycle while crossing the northbound lane.
Bechtle was airlifted to the University of Virginia Hospital with undisclosed injuries. He had been wearing a helmet, according to a Star Exponent report.
The Toyota driver was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Trooper M.S. Austin had been responding to the scene and issued a summons to the Toyota driver for failing to yield the right of way.
On the same Friday, a female motorcyclist was killed in Page County when she slammed into a pickup truck.
As reported by Virginia State Police and WHSV.com, the accident happened on a curve on Route 340, just south of the Warren County line. Jennifer Dianne Pingley, from Bentonville, VA, died on the scene. She had been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
According to the State Police, Pingley crossed into the other lane and hit the oncoming pickup truck. The truck's driver, Cassey Lee Firkin of Rileyville, VA, was unhurt.
