Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

VA worker killed falling from scaffold at Fort Lee construction site

Posted on Nov 28, 2010

A Virginia man is dead after falling from a scaffold on a five-story barracks building at Fort Lee where he was working.  The Army states that the incident is under investigation.

The man, Clinton Duke Clark, 40, was working for Manning Construction when the accident happened.  Working on the barracks as a laborer, he fell 45 feet.  The Fort Lee Fire and Emergency Services response is said to have been swift, with emergency workers on the scene of the accident in six minutes.

Clark was found to have a weak pulse after falling, so CPR was performed.  In an attempt to save his life Clark was taken to John Randolph Memorial Hospital in Hopewell.  Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An Army spokesperson stated that they believe Clark was wearing a safety harness at the time of the incident, but that is just a preliminary report.  The building, located at 40th Street and E Avenue is part of new construction at the Prince George’s County Army base.

The barracks are being built to house individuals moved to the base after the 2005 federal Base Realignment and Closure Act which is bringing more people to the base.

Construction work is one of the most dangerous lines of work for American men and women.  After an on-the-job death, family members may be eligible for Virginia workers’ compensation death benefits.
