Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

Virginia Man Killed in Head-On Collision With Dump Truck

Posted on Nov 09, 2011

Virginia motorists in Fauquier and Culpeper Counties don't have to be reminded of the dangers of heavy-load trucks. A crash with a tractor-trailer or a dump truck often results in terrible injuries, if not death.

This was dramatically illustrated in a Scott County accident on Wednesday when Earl Ward, 48, of Yuma, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming dump truck.

The crash occurred at 7:50 a.m. on Route 71, north of Big Moccasin Road. Ward, driving south in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, entered a large curve. He then suddenly swerved into the oncoming traffic lane. Ward had to be extricated from the wreck by a rescue team; he died shortly after the accident. The driver of the Kenworth three-axle dump truck was unhurt.

Another vehicle, a Mazda B2000 pickup, was following the dump truck and could not avoid rear-ending it when the crash happened. The Mazda driver suffered minor injuries.

Ward's body was taken to the Russell County Medical Examiner's Office in Lebanon. The accident remains under investigation.

The Virginia accident attorneys of Dulaney, Lauer & Thomas send their most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Earl Ward.
