When a westbound tractor-trailer on Route 3 approached the intersection with Route 20, the driver slowed down for a yellow light. Right behind it, Anthony Morris, 32, of Stafford County, was driving a dump truck with a trailer loaded with paving equipment. In an attempt to avoid rear-ending the tractor-trailer, Morris steered to the left, sideswiped the back of the 18-wheeler and struck a Toyota Highlander in the left lane.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler, the crash happened at the Spotsylvania-Orange county line at 11.30 a.m. It closed both westbound lanes of Route 3 at the intersection for about 45 minutes, after which one lane remained closed until 3 p.m.
Sgt. Tyler did not describe the injuries sustained by the drivers of the Toyota and the tractor-trailer. Both were transported to Culpeper Hospital for treatment.
The State Police filed charges against Morris for reckless driving, driving with a restricted license, and driving with an expired truck inspection. Morris was also charged with operating a defective vehicle and trailer including defective brakes, and hauling an improperly secured load.
The Virginia truck accident lawyers at Dulaney Lauer & Thomas hope all of the involved parties quickly recover from their injuries.
