Breaking News for Culpeper and Warrenton Accident Victims

Virginia Truck Driver Survives Devastating Crash

Posted on Apr 14, 2011

A recent accident involving a tractor-trailer that crashed into a restaurant in Melfa, VA reminds Fauquier and Culpeper County residents to stay away from large trucks as much as they can.

In this accident, the driver, 41-year old Tony Terrell Weeks of Mappsville, VA, was traveling southbound on Route 13 when his truck ran off the road to the right, struck two telephone poles, and continued on to hit two vehicles in a used car lot. This trail of destruction ended with the truck crashing into Don Velario's restaurant and causing substantial damage.

Weeks was transported to a nearby hospital, but is said to have suffered only minor injuries, according to a WAVY.com report.

According to the Virginia State Police, alcohol was not involved and the driver was wearing his seatbelt. An investigation is ongoing.

The cause of the accident can only be guessed, and could have been a medical issue. What is certain is the kind of devastation that can be inflicted by a semi-trailer. Many truck drivers, under the pressure of the pay-per-mile system, do not rest when they are tired or unwell, and keep on driving for long hours propped up by drugs.
